A Sea-Siren Inspired Shoot with Erika Mills

seasirenweddingerikamills-68When Erika mentioned her idea for a photo shoot, she had no idea how excited I would be about it – and I don’t think she knew that I would be able to help her bring her vision to life. Something that I LOVE doing is photo shoots – controlled environments with fantastic vendors, finding new ways to do beautiful things.  The conversations started off small and then they grew and grew – into what became this gorgeous sea-siren inspired shoot.

Erika was great.  Not only did she provide me with a Pinterest board to allow for loose interpretations of what she was looking for, but she let me choose a lot of our vendors, some of whom she’d never worked with.  Photo shoots are fantastic because they can expand your portfolio, but it’s always my hope that you get to work with someone new, because there should be an element of networking behind them as well.  SeaSiren-10

The gown was the tough part (which is crazy, because, for me, it should be easy).  Erika wanted something with color, and something that wasn’t like anything else.  I had a few ideas, but a gown being tried on at Privee Bride of Ghent really hit it home for me.  This gorgeous gown would be perfect – it was the perfect mix of sexy and sophisticated – had gray tones like the rest of the shoot – and had just enough sparkle to set it off in the sunlight.

seasirenweddingerikamills-2I was also fortunate that Erika let me choose the florist – and we went with none other than Palette of Petals.  Not only are these phenomenal ladies true artists in their craft, but I’m also lucky enough to call them my clients.  Working with them was a dream (and always has been), and how they took Erika’s inspiration and ran was nothing short of spectacular.  They made this arch from driftwood, and did it right on site, and then created this crazy seaweed-like art installation as the backdrop for our portraits.  They used mermaid purses in the bout and the bouquet to further show the inspiration – and it really took our breath away.

Erika spearheaded the “invitation” – but we decided it would be more of an announcement.  She had this beautiful idea that it would look like a message in a bottle (and the personal touch of using our children’s names really tugged on my heart strings).  The Girl Tyler did a fantastic job executing her vision – and printing it on fabric was an incredible touch.

Working with Distinctive Event Rentals is always great – particularly Jourdan.  He was a great sounding board when I was trying to come up with how I thought the place settings should look – and we ended up with something that, to our knowledge, had never been done before.  The blue detail really made everything pop on the gorgeous farm table from Coastal VA Event Rentals.seasirenweddingerikamills-70SeaSiren-7

While I didn’t have the opportunity to work directly with Blush Tones and Flawless On Site that day, our model showed up with impeccable hair and makeup.  These ladies are amazing professionals, and did everything Erika asked them to.

This was my first shoot as Misty Saves the Day.  My first adventure outside of my former life. I’m so grateful to Kim Wadsworth of VOW Magazine for making room in our publication for a shoot that we both believed in so much.  I picked up the magazine at VOW Hampton on Sunday – and was SO pleased with how they portrayed everything that we did together.  For the first time, I saw my name in print as just me – Misty Prewitt, Misty Saves the Day.  It was pretty epic.  There might have been tears.  It’s so fantastic when you know that those around you believe in you to carry out their dreams and their wishes – thank you Erika, for letting me do this with you!
