Family Time

It’s week one of getting more organized.  So I started with a schedule.

One of the hardest lessons that I’ve had to learn in my life, no matter where I worked or what I did, was to make time for myself, my friends, my family – whatever it may be.  When I was a teenager, I worked two jobs and was part of every club high school had to offer.  In college, I worked two jobs, took classes, had homework, and barely made to a single party (how I had time to hang out with my now-husband, I couldn’t possibly tell you).  Throughout my professional career, I’ve always gone above and beyond – and I’ve always been commended for that, and it’s been something that I pride myself on.

What I never quite figured out was how to balance going above and beyond with myself, my life, my legacy.  Sure, I work x amount of hours a week for Misty Saves the Day – and that is FANTASTIC.  I’ve done the same things for the companies before me; however, my legacy – what matters most in my life, I seem to have a hard time finding time for.  One day, you just realize that it doesn’t make sense to live your life that way.  I have two amazing daughters that love me very much.  Piper equates me being on the phone or on the computer with working.  I won’t let Wren think the same thing.

Misty Saves the Day is about helping small business professionals find time for themselves, their families, and giving up the things that they don’t love to do, but they know may be necessary for their business – so that they can do that.  I’m so happy to do the same thing.  It’s what makes outsourcing amazing!

IMG_5695IMG_5708The beauty of starting this business is getting to choose the amount of work that I do.  I’ll always go above and beyond for my clients, but I do that because I can take x amount of clients, and put a cap on it when I’ve hit it.  The good news is that I’ve hit that cap for January, with Weddings with Pride and taking over their social media campaign for their Same Sex Wedding Showcase on January 30th (shameless plug: follow them on Facebook here, follow them on Twitter here, follow them on Instagram here).  I have a couple of spots left for February if anyone is interested (you can click the handy dandy contact button at the top of the page, or just email me at misty@mistysavestheday.com)!

I received this incredible new planner from UP Studio NC, and one of the things that I did when I was converting my Google calendar back to a beautiful paper planner is that I can see my life scheduled out.  I can see that I have to be at this meeting, this photo shoot, spend time on the computer all day this day, get these things scheduled for social media for this client – I can see it all.  And then I can take a step back and look at the blank days.  You know what I did with those blank dates?  Made them mine.  I wrote in sharpie across those dates that I was spending time with my family.  I was never able to do that before – and I’m sure my boss’ would let me if I asked, but I’m not that kind of person.  One of the beauties of being your own boss is that you don’t have to ask – you just do.  And when you get organized and find time to “schedule” parts of your life, you’re able to make your life about so much more.

I mentioned in the last blog post that last year’s resolution was to live, and this year’s resolution is to get organized.  I’m wondering if I should’ve flipped them around, because clearly, getting organized is showing me that I CAN live.

PS The photos in this blog are from Christmas <3 I did do a good job and didn’t work Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and just hung with my family, and that was amazing.
